Represented at the meeting by the Labour Ministry’s Director of Policies, Analysis, Research and Statistic (PARS) Mr. Omoha Laxy Omoha, the minister gave the assurance that unemployment would soon become a thing of the past in Nigeria to ensure better standard of living.

As part of efforts to tackle the crisis, the ministry and the social partners convened a National Employment summit in collaboration with the ILO in April 2009. The summit was organised to meet the challenges of the global economic and financial crisis.”
“The various interventions are N620 billion banks bail out, N460 billion for food security, N200 billion for Agriculture, N26 billion for road construction, N29 million for NDE to train in 14 trades in six geo-political zones and N1million for cotton and textile garment.”

A statement signed by the Assistant Director, Press of the Labour Ministry, Mr. Samuel Olowokeere  added that  Nigeria is gearing towards actualizing the four strategies objectives of the Decent Work Agenda and thee National Employment Action Plan.

The minister called for assistance from the ILO and ARLAC in the areas of technical support for the implementation of the programme and its monitoring, as well as in the area of training of Labour officers and factory officers.
